Hotkeys in Wirecast are keyboard shortcuts you assign to shots and commands so you can switch live shots without the mouse. Wirecast has two kinds: application shortcuts, which run menu commands, and document hotkeys, which run commands in your document, such as taking a shot. You manage both on the Shortcuts tab of Preferences.
How to assign a hotkey to a shot in Wirecast
- In the layers pane, click the gear icon on the shot.
- Select Assign Hotkey, then choose a hotkey from the menu. Wirecast shows the key on the shot icon.
- To switch shots on different layers with one key, assign the same hotkey to a shot on another layer.
How do I create or change a hotkey?
- Open Preferences > Shortcuts. On Mac, select Wirecast > Preferences. On Windows, select File > Preferences.
- Choose a set from the Keyboard Shortcut Set menu. To edit application shortcuts, first copy the Default set with Configure > Duplicate Set, then name it with Configure > Rename.
- Click the Document Hotkeys tab, or the Application Shortcuts tab for menu commands.
- Select a command, then press the keys you want in the Click to record shortcut field.
- (Optional) Check Global so the hotkey works even when the Wirecast window isn’t in focus.
If a key combination is already in use, Wirecast shows a warning icon in the Conflict column. The Conflicted sub-tab on the Application Shortcuts tab lists every clash.
Hotkey tips
- Use the Search field on the Application Shortcuts tab to find the shortcut for any menu command.
- To show the hotkey name instead of the key combination on shots, open Preferences > Shot Display and change Display hotkeys using.
- On Mac, Command+1 and Command+2 select the first two transition buttons.
- Replay has its own Create, Update and Mark shortcuts in the Replay+ISO settings. See Replays.
- For physical buttons, Wirecast also supports MIDI and X-keys controllers in Preferences > Controllers.
