VST effect plugins let you add third-party audio processing, such as EQ, compression or noise reduction, to Wirecast Pro. You add each VST plugin once in the Audio Plugin Explorer. Then you apply it from the audio mixer’s Add New FX menu to a single live source or to the Final Mix that viewers hear.
How to add a VST plugin to Wirecast
- Install the plugin on your computer.
- Select Window > Audio Plugin Explorer. The dialog lists the Telestream plugins installed by default.
- Click the + button.
- Browse to your folder of VST plugins, select a VST file, and click Open.
Wirecast adds the plugin to its list of audio plugins.
How to apply a VST plugin to an audio source
- Select Window > Audio Mixer.
- In the Live Sources pane, find the microphone or input you want to process.
- Click the Add New FX (+) button and select the plugin.
- Adjust the plugin controls while you watch the level meters.
How to apply a plugin to the Final Mix
To process everything viewers hear, open the audio mixer, click Add New FX (+) in the Final Mix pane, and select the plugin. A limiter here is a common way to keep the whole program from clipping.
The multi-track audio feature page covers more of the Wirecast audio mixer.
Tips
- Process individual sources first. Use the Final Mix only for effects that should affect the whole show.
- Try the built-in effects before adding a third-party plugin. They include Dynamics, EQ, Limiter and Noise Reduction.
- Wirecast meters turn yellow at -6 dB and red above -1 dB. Use them to check that a plugin isn’t pushing levels too hot.
- Click the FX down-arrow on a channel to show its effects pane.
