Rendezvous

Invite remote guests into your Wirecast show with a browser link, then add each guest as a shot.

Updated · Wirecast team, Telestream

Rendezvous is the Wirecast tool for bringing remote guests into a live show. You create a session, copy the link and send it to your guests. They join from a supported web browser, and you add each guest to your show as a shot. Wirecast Studio allows up to 2 guests and Wirecast Pro up to 7.

How to create a Rendezvous session

  1. In a layer, click the + (Add Shot) icon and select Network > Create Rendezvous Session. Or select Window > Rendezvous Dashboard and click Start Session.
  2. Optional: check Enable chat for session and Share chat history, then click Create Session.
  3. Click Click to Copy to copy the Rendezvous URL, and send it to your guests.
  4. Click OK. Wirecast opens the Rendezvous Dashboard.

What guests do to join

Guests paste the link into Chrome, Safari or Firefox, choose their camera and microphone in settings, enter their name and click Join. They see a “Waiting to join” message until you admit them. iOS users can join through Wirecast Go, and Android users through Chrome. Guests don’t need to buy Wirecast or install anything.

How to add a guest to your live show

  1. When a guest is waiting, a guest icon appears in the Rendezvous Dashboard. Click it and select the guest to admit them.
  2. In a layer, click +, select Network, and under Rendezvous Session pick the guest’s name.
  3. Select the new shot to place and size it in the Preview Area, then take it live.

If a guest shares their screen and camera, you get two separate feeds. Use them as separate shots or as picture-in-picture. To end the show, click Stop Session in the Rendezvous Dashboard. Ending the session disconnects all guests and deletes the chat history.

Tips

  • Use chat to talk privately with guests. Chat is never shown in the broadcast.
  • For musicians, ask the guest to turn on Music Mode. It switches to stereo, raises the bitrate and turns off echo cancellation, so use it for music only.
  • Plan for bandwidth: add about 4 Mbps for 2 guests (Studio) or 5+ Mbps for 7 guests (Pro).
  • If you lose the connection, click Reconnect to previous session in the dashboard.

See Rendezvous for more on guest limits and screen sharing.
