To record your stream in Wirecast, add a Record to Disk destination in Output Settings, choose an encoder and a folder, then click Record. Wirecast saves your program output, the same mix your viewers see, to a local drive. You can record while you stream or record without going live.
How to set up recording to disk in Wirecast
- Click the Record button at the top of the default layout. If you haven’t set up a recording yet, Wirecast opens the Output window.
- Click Add at the bottom of the window.
- Select Record to Disk and click OK.
- In the Output Settings window, select Record To Disk (MOV, MP4 or Windows Media).
- Select an encoder.
- Click Browse, or type the path to the folder where the file should be saved.
- Choose a recording mode (see below), then click OK.
You can also open these settings from Output > Output Settings. One document can have a streaming destination and a Record to Disk destination at the same time. Each extra destination uses more system resources.
Which recording mode should I choose?
- Use Filename Only writes to the same file name each time, so your previous recording is overwritten.
- Auto Increment Filenames adds a number to the end of the name and creates a new file every time you start recording.
- Timestamp Filenames names each file by the time it was recorded.
Auto Increment or Timestamp is the safer choice if you record more than one show with the same document.
How to start and stop a recording
Click Record to start, and click it again to stop. You can also use Output > Start/Stop Recording. The recording timer next to the button is cumulative and doesn’t reset when you start or stop the broadcast. To find your files, choose Output > Show Recordings.
Tips
- Record to a fast drive. The User Guide lists a 7200 RPM hard drive as the minimum and an SSD as recommended.
- Avoid FAT32 drives. Files larger than 4 GB may not close properly. Use Mac OS Extended on Mac or NTFS on Windows.
- Need clean files of each camera too? Wirecast Pro can record them separately with ISO Recording.
