Updated · Wirecast team, Telestream

Multi-Viewer in Wirecast sends a grid of sources to a monitor connected to your computer, so you can watch Preview, Live and any shot in your document at the same time. Wirecast Studio supports 1–4 slot layouts and Wirecast Pro supports up to 17 slots. You set up each connected monitor separately.

How to set up a Multi-Viewer in Wirecast

  1. Connect the monitor to your Wirecast computer.
  2. Select Output > Multi-Viewer Output > Configure Displays.
  3. Choose the Monitor for the Multi-Viewer. Click Identify Displays to show each monitor’s number on screen.
  4. Set Mode to Multi-viewer.
  5. Choose a Layout: one, two or four slots. Wirecast Pro also offers ten or seventeen slots.
  6. Click inside each slot and choose a source: Preview, Live or any shot in your document.
  7. Choose a Labels option: Draw Labels Below each Slot, Superimpose Labels Over Each Shot, or Do Not Draw Labels.
  8. Select Output > Multi-Viewer Output > Enable All Displays.

Multi-Viewer or Secondary Display: which output should I use?

  • Multi-Viewer is for monitoring. It shows up to 17 sources and has no built-in latency, so it is usually faster than Secondary Display.
  • Secondary Display Live Output sends a frame-accurate program feed, for example to a recorder or a capture card feeding Zoom or Teams. It adds a quarter second of latency to improve A/V sync. Set Mode to Live Output to use it.

Multi-Viewer tips and troubleshooting

  • Each slot has audio meters. They turn yellow at -6 dBFS and red above -1 dBFS.
  • If your Multi-Viewer disappears when you switch apps, turn off Hide All Displays When App is in the Background in the Multi-Viewer Output menu.
  • To turn off one display quickly, click it on its monitor and press Esc.
  • Multi-Viewer uses the frame rate set in Canvas preferences, so keep that close to your output frame rate.
  • Large layouts need a dedicated GPU. Check the hardware specs before building a 17-slot view.

Yes. Each connected monitor is configured separately, with its own layout and sources, and Wirecast numbers them so you can tell them apart.

No. Multi-Viewer has no built-in latency because it is meant for monitoring. If you need a frame-accurate program feed for recording, use Secondary Display Live Output instead.
