To capture a monitor, window, or application in Wirecast, click the + icon in a layer, choose Screen Capture in the Add Shot window, and add a Screen Capture shot. Then set the Capture Type to Monitor, Window, or Game and pick what to capture. Screen capture is included in both Wirecast Studio and Wirecast Pro.
How to capture a screen or window in Wirecast
- In a layer, click the + icon. The Add Shot window opens.
- Select Screen Capture, then select Screen Capture again in the list of sources and click Add.
- Double-click the new shot to open the Shot Editor.
- Check Capture Video to turn on the capture settings.
- Set Capture Type to Monitor (the entire monitor), Window (a single application window), or Game.
- Next to Select Window/Monitor, click Configure and choose the monitor or window.
- Set fps between 10 and 60. Higher frame rates look smoother but need more streaming bandwidth.
Which screen capture settings matter most?
- Show Cursor: show or hide the mouse pointer in the shot.
- Capture System Audio: include the computer’s audio, such as sound from a video or app.
- Choose Audio Device: click Configure to pick a specific audio device.
- Audio Delay and Video Delay: line up the capture with your other sources.
- Game options (Windows): Capture Any Full Screen Game, Support Multiple Video Cards/SLI, Capture Third Party Overlays, and Anti Cheat Support.
How to capture another computer’s screen
To show a screen from a different computer, install Telestream Desktop Presenter on that computer. Wirecast usually detects it automatically and lists it as Remote Desktop Presenter under Screen Capture in the Add Shot window. If it is not detected, add it manually and enter the computer’s IP address. Remote Desktop Presenter uses port 7272.
On a Mac, you can also capture an iPhone or iPad connected with an Apple-certified Lightning cable by adding it as a Screen Capture source.
Troubleshooting
- If an app hides your cursor while it is being captured, press Command + Tab (Mac) or Alt + Tab (Windows) to get your mouse back.
- If a remote computer does not appear, check that port 7272 is open on your network.
