Adding NDI Sources

To add an NDI source in Wirecast, click the + icon in a layer, select Network in the Add Shot window, choose the NDI source from the list, and click Add. Wirecast creates a new shot for that source. NDI input works in both Wirecast Studio and Wirecast Pro, with no capture card needed.

How to add an NDI source in Wirecast

1. Start the NDI source, such as an NDI camera, an NDI app, or another computer sending NDI. Make sure it is on the same local network as your Wirecast computer.
2. In Wirecast, click the + icon in any layer. The Add Shot window opens.
3. Select Network. Wirecast lists the NDI sources it has detected on your network.
4. Select the NDI source in the right-side pane and click Add.
5. Wirecast creates a shot for the source. Double-click the shot to open it in the Shot Editor.

How to set up an NDI source in the Shot Editor

In the Shot Editor, open the Shot Layer Properties tab. NDI sources have these extra controls:

• Bandwidth: Highest (max quality), Lowest (max efficiency), or Audio Only.
• GPU Decoding: uses your GPU to decode the incoming source, which lowers the load on your CPU.
• Timestamps: Provided by source (the default) or Provided by Wirecast. Try Provided by Wirecast if audio and video from the source drift out of sync.
• Video Delay: delays the video, in steps as short as 1 ms, to line it up with other sources.
• Deinterlacing and Dynamic Range: match these to the source if the picture looks combed or the levels look wrong.
• Monitor: plays the source audio through your monitor output.

Tips for working with NDI sources

• Give each NDI source a clear name so it is easy to find in busy shows.
• Use the Lowest bandwidth setting for sources that only need to be seen in a small box, to save network capacity.
• In Wirecast Pro, you can record an NDI shot on its own with Shot ISO. See ISO recording.
• NDI-capable PTZ cameras can be controlled from the PTZ Controller in Wirecast Pro.
• If a source does not appear in the list, check that your network allows NDI discovery and traffic.
